OSHO

MADNESS
A man who has no understanding is continuously a victim of so many thoughts, because he has no one insight to give him a center. He has a crowd of thoughts, unrelated to each other, even diametrically opposite to each other, contradicting each other, with deep antagonism towards each other. He has a crowd – not even a group, not even a society, but a mob of thoughts buzzing inside the mind. So if you go on with your thinking too far, one day you will become mad. Too much thought can create insanity.  In primitive societies madness is rare. The more civilized a society is, the more people go insane. Even in civilized societies, more people go insane who work with their intellects. This is unfortunate but this is a fact: that more psychoanalysts go mad than in any other profession. Why? – too much thinking. It is very difficult to manage so many contradictory thoughts together. In managing them, your whole being becomes unmanaged, becomes a chaos.

HH PADMA NORBU RINPOCHE

Always supplicate and make aspirational prayers with ardent faith, devotion and enthusiasm. One's nature of mind is covered up with ignorance and delusion. Try to rest in the relaxed state without any delusion and conceptual thoughts. Always be free from delusion of pride and so on.

he taught through his presence and through his actions. Everybody who came to see him was totally overwhelmed by his presence.

HH The 16THGyalwang Karmapa

The Progressive Turning of the Wheel of Dharma – by HH The 61TH Gyalwang Karmapa
"He taught the Four Truths
In the deer park of Varanasi".
"1. Ignorance as a seed, which is like the cause of an illness: The Truth of Origination.
2. the result of that, the defilements, which are like an illness: The Truth of Suffering.
3. the remedy for that, which is like a medicine: The Truth of the Path.
4. Through the power of that path, there is freedom from origination and defilements, like freedom from an illness, which is the result: The Truth of Cessation.
He taught the Bodhisattva-Pitaka to those of the Mahayana.
The place where he taught this was the Vulture-Peak mountain, where he turned the middle wheel of "the Dharma on the non-existence of characteristics". He taught the superior training of the mind, the superior training of wisdom, and the superior training of meditation. He taught the ultimate self-knowing wisdom. He taught inconceivable, deep and vast Dharma gateways, teaching how to encounter the erroneous thoughts of belief in reality, and to counter attachment to reality, and then how to end conceptualization of perceiver and perception, and how to truly attain the wisdom of the Dharma.
Also, the Buddha, with immeasurable compassion, taught special beings in various places "the Dharma that classifies the excellent". This is the definite classification of the ultimate qualities: the distinguishing characteristics of the Dharmadhatu-wisdom, which is devoid of the duality of perceiver and perception.
The Buddha thus taught three successive turnings of the wheel of Dharma."

The Life and Times of Jamyang Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö

From early childhood, I could never remain in perfect medita tion at all times, even in my dreams, and I never aspired to per form village rituals or longed only to lead the life of an ascetic. By renouncing this life, I have completely severed all pretensions with everyone, high and low, as well as the fabrications of hope and fear.

Khyentse Chökyi Lodro attained the sublime bhumis in the same way. By the power of his inner wisdom, he dissolved the eight worldly preoccu pations into one taste and completely dismantled the illusions of hope and fear. As a result, he attained extraordinary secret qualities, inconceivable to the minds of ordinary beings. These days, though, such things are unknown to all but a few.

Nagarjuna said,

Hearing increases wisdom:
To one who can hear and contemplate, Meditation will arise perfectly.
Through these three, unsurpassable accomplishment will
be attained.

Khenchen Tsewang Gyatso Rinpoche'

Before we can attain this direct perception of Guru Padmasambhava, we must attain the path of seeing, the first bhumi. To attain that first bhumi, we must purify our minds and certain obscurations through our practice of the Seven Line Prayer and recitation of the Vajra Guru Mantra.

The sign of receiving Guru Padmasambhava’s blessing is that, without any known cause or reason, we may feel calm and peaceful, and have no disturbing thoughts or negative emotions.

Some of you may dream of Guru Padmasambhava giving you blessings, teachings or certain instructions. All these are very possible as they have been experienced by the masters of the past.

HH 17TH KARMAPA

In my present situation, I have nothing tangible to give back to anyone. People often come to see me with high hopes for what I can do for them. Mostly I have one simple thing to give: from my heart I offer them my love and my hopes for their happiness. Even when there is little else I can offer, I truly wish to know the answer when I ask, “How are you? How do you feel? How is your mind? Are you well these days?” In earlier times, there seemed to be a genuine concern when asking, “How are you?” Now, this often seems like a mere formal ity. People might not have any real interest in hearing the answer to that question. Instead, what they really want to know is: “How is your business going? How much are you worth? What can you do for me?” Though there may be nothing tangible I can do for the people I meet, I can concern myself with their well-being. In a world where so little importance is placed on genuinely caring for others, and where true love and compassion seem to be rare, maybe this can have some value. The fact that there is one person in the world who cares and feels love for them does seem to touch people deeply. In a world of too little love, I can see that even just that simple expression of love makes a deep impression on people. It brings some real happiness. Just asking and earnestly waiting to hear how people feel en tails a very small shift in behavior. But it could help us cultivate a habit of connecting heart to heart, and of sincerely caring for oth ers. I think that on a larger scale, too, the attitude of inquiring and listening attentively to what others feel and need forms a sound basis for any social action. It is a way to ensure that love infuses all that we do to benefit others.

HH PADMA NORBU RINPOCHE

Here I am not blaming the Gelugpas and all. But while talking about Dharma if we ask the Geshes by saying, "can enlightenment be achieved in a single life span?" - The answer will be no. Again if we ask them, "when will we attain Buddha hood?" they will say, "in future during the time of lord Maitriya." Attaining enlightenment in a single life span is a distinctive quality of our tradition, the Great Perfection (Dzogchen). Though all the Buddha's teachings are equal, there are great difference in effects and blessings. Thus, our tradition, the Dzogchen is superior to all. That's because all the practitioners of the Dzogchen display certain signs of realization when they pass away and it's solely due to the power of distinct doctrine. So, even if we cannot practise the Dzogchen throughout our life, try as much as we can to practise it by establishing link with it.

Whether or not you go in a positive direction depends entirely on you. You have to be your own teacher and try to figure out what it takes to accomplish your goals. You have to be your own judge and try to get yourself to do the right thing and stop yourself from doing the wrong thing. Take responsibility for yourself. (17th Karmapa)

THE OUTER GURU: AS BUDDHA AS IT GETS
In the Vajrayana, the guru has three aspects: the outer guru, the inner guru, and the secret guru. It’s important to be clear about these before entering a path that uses the guru as a method for awakening. The great Sakyapa master Könchok Lhundrup explained that the outer guru is the physical person you can see and communicate with, from whom you can receive verbal and symbolic teachings and instructions. The outer guru is “as Buddha as it gets.” The inner guru is the nature of your mind—in other words, a mind that is not thinking of a “thing” but is simply cognizant and undeniably present. And the secret guru is the emptiness of all phenomena.

HH Padma Norbu Rinpoche

All the people are responsible for the progress of the Nyingma sect in the future. Therefore, if one has loyalty towards one's own religious tradition, it is vital to study it thoroughly, so that one can compose new books and compile books for the sake of Buddhism in general. Likewise, it is also crucial to receive empowerment, oral transmission and to practice the Dharma. Then you have to give guidance to the people to help them - Though I don't know much, the main objective as such.

Happy Guru rinpoche day...

People will criticise us if we say our institute is the best, the most superior and the largest one, but it's true that we stand as the largest and the finest Higher Buddhist Studies and Research Centre among the Ngagyur Nyingma sect. Such outcomes are not the accomplishment obtained by one or two person's struggle, but the result of collective efforts and sincerity. So, thank you all for your strenuous labour and support. Generally, it is the consequence of the merits accumulated in our past lives that we are born in this time of the Buddha-dharma's teaching. Therefore, it's really crucial to utilize such an opportunity in a wise manner. Especially, to guard one's own outer Pratimoksha vow as a main asset and to observe the Samaya and Vinaya rules vigilantly, like our own self, are imperative.

HH Karmapa Ogyen Trinely Dorje

The difficulty we have these days is that we often mistake confidence and pride. We get the two mixed up and often see pride as if it were confidence. For that reason we are unable to distinguish between our pride and our confidence. Confidence is something we must have, but pride is something we must give up. It is important for us to distinguish these two. Here, the text is talking about decreasing our pride by decreasing our arrogance and decreasing our tendency to ignore or think badly of others.
