From early childhood, I could never remain in perfect medita tion at all times, even in my dreams, and I never aspired to per form village rituals or longed only to lead the life of an ascetic. By renouncing this life, I have completely severed all pretensions with everyone, high and low, as well as the fabrications of hope and fear.
Khyentse Chökyi Lodro attained the sublime bhumis in the same way. By the power of his inner wisdom, he dissolved the eight worldly preoccu pations into one taste and completely dismantled the illusions of hope and fear. As a result, he attained extraordinary secret qualities, inconceivable to the minds of ordinary beings. These days, though, such things are unknown to all but a few.
Nagarjuna said,
Hearing increases wisdom:
To one who can hear and contemplate, Meditation will arise perfectly.
Through these three, unsurpassable accomplishment will
be attained.
