The Progressive Turning of the Wheel of Dharma – by HH The 61TH Gyalwang Karmapa

"He taught the Four Truths

In the deer park of Varanasi".

"1. Ignorance as a seed, which is like the cause of an illness: The Truth of Origination.

2. the result of that, the defilements, which are like an illness: The Truth of Suffering.

3. the remedy for that, which is like a medicine: The Truth of the Path.

4. Through the power of that path, there is freedom from origination and defilements, like freedom from an illness, which is the result: The Truth of Cessation.

He taught the Bodhisattva-Pitaka to those of the Mahayana.

The place where he taught this was the Vulture-Peak mountain, where he turned the middle wheel of "the Dharma on the non-existence of characteristics". He taught the superior training of the mind, the superior training of wisdom, and the superior training of meditation. He taught the ultimate self-knowing wisdom. He taught inconceivable, deep and vast Dharma gateways, teaching how to encounter the erroneous thoughts of belief in reality, and to counter attachment to reality, and then how to end conceptualization of perceiver and perception, and how to truly attain the wisdom of the Dharma.

Also, the Buddha, with immeasurable compassion, taught special beings in various places "the Dharma that classifies the excellent". This is the definite classification of the ultimate qualities: the distinguishing characteristics of the Dharmadhatu-wisdom, which is devoid of the duality of perceiver and perception.

The Buddha thus taught three successive turnings of the wheel of Dharma."
