HIS HOLINESS The Gyalwang Drukpa

At the end of the day, there is nothing you can take with you. Your possessions, reputation, relationships and your body are all eventually left behind. You only have one stomach to feed. Regardless of how long good friends and relatives live together, they must someday depart. Whatever you build, be it businesses or buildings, they will collapse at some point in the future. It doesn’t mean you shouldn’t care, but it doesn’t make much sense to become too strongly attached.

If your mind is pure,
Everyone is a Buddha.
If your mind is impure,
Everyone is ordinary.

...
The path of Secret Mantra is one of both great profit and danger. Therefore, anyone who practises these texts should receive the empowerments, reading transmissions, and instructions from an authentic spiritual teacher, doing so in the correct manner. Once the essential practice has been perfected, it is certain that both the dharmakaya and rupakaya will be attained. For this reason, I request that these points be kept in mind.

HIS HOLINESS DILGO KHYENTSE RINPOCHE

Our situation is not completely hopeless, however. As the Kadampa masters used to say, “The only good thing about wrongdoing is that it can be purified.” Negative actions are compounded phenomena, so they must be impermanent; therefore, as the Buddha said, there can be no fault so serious that
cannot be purified by the four powers.

Life has its ups and downs just like changing seasons, when one encounters difficulties or unfavorabie conditions, should not lose heart and decadent but treat it as different stages of experience, and replacing negative pessimism with positive optimism, thus be able to turn a crisis into an opportunity.

If one want to escape suffering and attain tranquility and happiness, then must grasp every cause and condition of the moment, contemplates and counteracts the habits of the five poisons at any time, and resolve various inner afflictions and sufferings, further to expand the mind to surpass self-attachment, that is the path of attaining liberation.

Some people think that Dharma Practice is only for the after'ife, however, if the causes of suffering have not been eliminated, how one can attain bliss? Some people only pursue sensual pleasure in this life, thus incur a degenerate rebirth due to cause evil karma, one day when death comes then is too late to regret and panic.

Practicing Buddha Dharma should be motivated by bodhicitta, if every motive comes in good faith with every confidence in the Buddha Dharma and the guru, then one sure can receive the blessings from the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, which not only can be sheltered from all obstructions in this life, but also be fearless as one near the end of life.

As we all are dharma practitioners we have to pray that all the lineage lamas who are with us right now live long, and also any lama to whom we have created dharma connection with and those who have passed away, we have to make this aspirational prayer for their swift rebirth. Of course you are all doing this every time; I'm just reminding you the importance of doing these long-life prayers and swift-rebirth prayers.

When we get sick, when somebody treats us badly, when problems arise with our work or family, when our cherished possessions break or are lost — whatever occasion arises that causes us pain — we need to see this is the ripening of the karmic imprint caused by some previous negative action we have done. Whatever difficulty we experience in life comes right back to our own nonvirtuous conduct. If we had not created the karma, we could not have received the result. The antidote, therefore, is to not create nonvirtue. Then we will no longer be a target.

So we need to understand the fault of samsara. When one has a clear understanding of these four thoughts, you could have some kind of feeling that you have to do some practice. Samsara looks so attractive, but it doesn't have any essence, like the rainbow. The rainbow looks so colorful, so nice, and you have so much desire and attachment. You really want to have it, but when you jump up to get it, you cannot get anything. Then you feel very sad, and you get so depressed. Why can't I have some of this beautiful rainbow? You get upset, but nothing happens. All these worldly pleasures are exactly like a rainbow. When you really enter into them, there is nothing there to have. That is why one must have a deeper understanding of cyclic existence. Then you can become more relaxed and have more enjoyment, thinking how attractive everything is, but having no attachment to it, no desire. You can enjoy and at the same time not create any negative karma and be more relaxed.

When we go beyond accepting and rejecting, everything is unified. As long as we accept and reject, there is still some attachment and clinging. Tibetans sometimes say of a meditator, “Awesome! That yogi is really beyond fixation. He doesn’t accept or reject anything. Now his fixation collapsed. He’s like the sky.” If we think we need to get rid of the thinking and attain wisdom; there are still two thoughts; the thought of abandoning one thing and achieving something else. This is accepting and rejecting. We still nurture this duality — one thing to eliminate, another to be gained. Accepting and rejecting is still subtle thinking. Once we let go of fixation, there is no accepting and rejecting.

All the people are responsible for the progress of the Nyingma sect in the future. Therefore, if one has loyalty towards one's own religious tradition, it is vital to study it thoroughly, so that one can compose new books and compile books for the sake of Buddhism in general. Likewise, it is also crucial to receive empowerment, oral transmission and to practice the Dharma. Then you have to give guidance to the people to help them - Though I don't know much, the main objective as such.

Just as compassion is the wish that all sentient beings be free of suffering, loving-kindness is the wish that all may enjoy happiness. As with compassion, when cultivating loving-kindness it is important to start by taking a specific individual as a focus of our meditation, and we then extend the scope of our concern further and further, to eventually encompass and embrace all sentient beings. a neutral person, a person who inspires no strong.

We exhaust ourselves in three ways: We create fabrications like mental concepts. We exert a lot of effort. We create many objects or targets in our minds. These are the three things that really tire us. It is like an insect caught in a spider's web: the more agitated it becomes, the more tangled it gets in the web. This creates real suffering, real torment for the mind.

A hundred scholars and a thousand yogis can say all they want to say about the nature of mind. But all can be summed up by this teaching of Jigme Lingpa. The mind should never be separated from loving kindness and compassion. Loving kindness and compassion should never be separated from emptiness. And mindful awareness should never be separated from emptiness. These are the key teachings.

The very first condition that will allow us to grow spiritually is faith; specifically, faith in the teachings. By faith, we do not mean blind faith. Faith means that through our own careful investigations, we come to the irrefutable conclusion that the teachings are genuine. Without this first condition, it is impossible for us to develop any virtuous qualities or to accomplish any virtuous deeds. We are like a roasted seed, unable to sprout even when placed in soil. So too we cannot develop any virtuous qualities without faith.

The grave consequences of alcohol- The elixir for the wise heart

CONDRADICTION TO THE SECRET VAJRAYANA SAMAYAS

The action tantra of Sena Bhadra Says:

"Meat, garlic, onion etc, should be avoided at all times.

The yogis should feed on three clean white nourishments."

And also the Meaningful Lasso Tantra states: "If one aspires to accomplish the ultimate truths, Avoid alcohol, meat, onions, residue and so forth."

Similarly, there are countless specific instructions prohibiting alcohol and meat in all the three lower tantras. It is also said that, they must maintain the pure conduct observ- ing the confessional state while performing their rituals.

Prohibition of alcohol is stated even in the context of Unexcelled Mantrayana Vajra Peak Tantra:

"As it is the root of all the havoc, Avoid the alcohol completely."

In the same way the tantra of immovable mystic heat says:

"So called alcohol, intoxicating drinks, I will never consume it at any place."

Dechog Domjung states thus:

"Once the lay practitioners are defiled by the alcohol;

They will have sex with the carnal desires,

They will dance and laugh likewise,

They will fight with pleasure and become mad."

In the same way even in Kalachakra, the abandonment of alcohol is considered as one among twenty five initial yogic disciplines. Thus, the intoxicants are prohibited in all the unsurpassable tantra texts where the meanings are definitive and not interpretive.

Maha Guru Padmasambhava

Lady Tsogyal asked the master: After having practiced in this way, how does one awaken to enlightenment?

The master replied: When you have trained in the thought-free nature of dharmata, thoughts—the causes of samsara—grow weaker and more quiet, while thought-free wakefulness becomes spontaneously present. This wakefulness is serene; its domain of experience is utterly pure; and the three kayas and other enlightened qualities appear naturally, like rays that shine from the sun.

Once you have mastered this nature, your body may remain in the world of human beings but your mind abides at the stage of a buddha. Once you have practiced this way, there is no doubt that you will awaken to buddhahood in the bardo. In other words, within your sky-like personal experience—dharmakaya that is utterly uncreated—the sunlike sambhogakaya and nirmanakayas will, in the perceptions of others, work for the benefit of sentient beings, like the sun’s rays.

Maha Guru Padmasambhava

“Padmasambhava said: ‘Though the view should be as vast as the sky, keep your conduct as fine as barley flour.’ Don’t confuse one with the other. When training in the view, you can be as unbiased, as impartial, as vast, immense, and unlimited as the sky. Your behaviour, on the other hand, should be as careful as possible in discriminating what is beneficial or harmful, what is good or evil. One can combine the view and conduct, but don’t mix them or lose one in the other. That is very important.

‘View like the sky’ means that nothing is held onto in any way whatsoever. You are not stuck anywhere at all. In other words, there is no discrimination as to what to accept and what to reject; no line is drawn separating one thing from another. ‘Conduct as fine as barley flour’ means that there is good and evil, and one needs to differentiate between the two. Give up negative deeds; practice the Dharma. In your behaviour, in your conduct, it is necessary to accept and reject.”

EVERYTHING IS A MOMENT ~ Tai Situ Rinpoche
(Transcription shared from Thubten Kway)

”As I move my fingers from here to there (moving hand from left to right), you see my hand is moving, that is an illusion because everything you see is already gone when you see it. It is a moment and that moment is not yet established.

Right now, we have a smallest particle and the fastest thing, light; when the light passes through that smallest particle, that is a moment. So when I do this (moving hand from left to right), many moments are gone and what you are seeing is a reflection that is left behind, a trace behind, ... it has already happened.

When you are hearing what I am saying, actually, the sound has already happened, it is already gone. It is wonderful, but it is an illusion, it is a wonderful illusion. We don't feel scared about it, we don't feel fear for it. We are not disappointed by it but the truth is: when you see something, when you hear something, it is already gone, long time back, millions of moments ahead and you are seeing and hearing it millions of moments later; same thing with taste, same thing with touch, everything.”

[Avalokiteswara clearly observed that the true nature of the five aggregates is Emptiness Such insight is the answer to all pains and struggles This line in the Heart Sutra a perfect description of her most distinctive trait the selfless devotion for the welfare of all sentient beings

This modern society our ignorance and pains have increased with ever-stronger attachments to lust, greed and desire According to Buddha, there are eight kinds of suffering birth, old age, disease, death, being surrounded by enemies, separation from loved ones, unfulfilled wishes, and unceasing activities of the five aggregates The first four sufferings are physical ones, while the latter four are emotional and mental ones All these sufferings have existed in a cyclic pattern srice the beginning of time. All sentient beings have suffered terribly in different ways in the world of cyclic existence. Where is the path: out of all the pain? How can we eradicate their root cause? Now I would like to introduce the path of Avalokitesvara and request everyone to believe and take up the path of Avalokitesvara and keep her presence in your mind at all time ...

HH PADMA NORBU RINPOCHE

SPIRITUAL MESSAGE ON HOW TO FOLLOW THE SPIRITUAL MASTER

The sole purpose of Buddhism is to liberate ourselves from all the sufferings of Samsara and to achieve the perfect bliss of ultimate enlightenment. Most important thereby, is to rely on an authentic master and to practice his advice properly - the "do's and don'ts". All the Buddhas of the three times had achieved their goals by following the spiritual masters only. Nobody has ever attainted Buddha hood on their own nor will this be the case in the future. We thus have to faithfully rely on an authentic master in order to attain Nirvana. It is essential to stop acting wrongfully behind your master whilst pretending to rely on him and to guard your Samaya (spiritual bondage with the master) with a great care.

So, I request you all to follow this advice without any preconceived ideas and to generate irreversible faith in your spiritual master (lama) and practice his instructions in order to achieve the supreme happiness of liberation.

If your mind is vast, the power of your prayers is unlimited, too. If your mind is narrow and rigid, your accumulation of merit and the purification of your obscurations will also be very limited.

HIS HOLINESS KARMAPA

When I left Tibet, I carried with me those feelings toward the nat ural environment. Later, as an adult, I decided to organize a con ference in the city of Varanasi, India, in order to educate Buddhist monks and nuns on environmental issues. For most of them, this was their first exposure to the topic, and I saw that the monks and nuns attending that conference were deeply affected—not just in tellectually stimulated, but emotionally moved. Seeing that people could become inspired to act to protect the environment encour aged me to do more in the area of environmental activism. Not everyone has grown up in a situation where respect for the sanctity of nature is nurtured from childhood, but I saw that it is possible to instill this feeling of respect and awe for the environment later in life, too. That gave me the courage to try to do more.

HH PENOR RINPOCHE

There is a saying in our native place, "If we recite the Mani mantra when someone dies, then one will get a horse for each recitation", as proclaimed, there is immense benefit during the intermediate state. It seems easy to recite "OM MA NI PAD ME HUNG!" isn't it?

If we think properly, it is extremely powerful. Since it is the time of flourishing the Dharma of Avalokiteshvara, it is easy for us to recite the mantra or hear it from others as well. In the other eons, hardly we can hear a word of his mantra. Thus, think deeply, and don't divert your mouth and eyes everywhere while reciting these profound mantras. Especially, lamas and monks should know all about the points of acceptance and rejection of reciting mantras. There are many laypeople who don't know much about this. Even if one doesn't understand the benefits and meanings of reciting mantras, it's very crucial to recite and practise it with the positive attitude.

We should constantly keep in mind that Guru Rinpoche is our sole refuge, whether in happiness or in sorrow, whether in the higher realms of samsara or the lower. Without any second thoughts, we should give our whole mind to him, like throwing a pebble into a lake.

The era in which we now live is known as the "Age of Five Degenerations." Our lifespan is shorter than it was in the Golden Age; this is the degeneration of life. Also, it is very rare to find someone who practices the Dharma and whose behavior really accords with it; this is the degeneration of karma, or activity. This world of ours is constantly stricken by wars, famine, and disease, and there is but little hope of peace and happiness; this is the degeneration of the times. All the while, the root causes of this general degeneration are the intense emotions that plague beings: hatred, desire, misjudgment, pride, and envy; this is the degeneration linked with emotions. Finally, beings even turn their back on the Dharma; this is the degeneration of the view.

Ignorance
54.
Don’t just take for granted ideas forged by ignorance; look at the nature of ignorance itself. The hosts of thoughts, liberated by themselves as they arise, are awareness-void; This awareness-void is none other than the wisdom of the absolute expanse. In the self-liberation of ignorance, recite the six-syllable mantra

Ignorance here means ignorance of our own Buddha-nature. In this respect, we are as ignorant as a beggar with a precious jewel in his hand who, not recognizing how valuable it is, simply throws it away. It is because of ignorance that we are the slaves of our thoughts and cannot tell right from wrong. It is because of ignorance that we are blind to the law of cause and effect and refuse to believe that every action has a result. It is because of ignorance that we cannot accept the existence of past and future lives. It is because of ignorance that we have no confidence in the beneficial results of praying to the Three Jewels. It is because of ignorance that we do not recognize the truth of the Dharma. Ignorance is at the very root of the eighty-four thousand negative emotions, for as long as we fail to see that the true nature of everything is voidness, we insist on believing that things really exist; and this is the source of all deluded perceptions and all negative thoughts. However, ignorance is not everlasting like the permanent darkness of a cavern deep underground. Like any other phenomenon, it can only have arisen from voidness and therefore can have no true existence. Once you recognize the void nature of ignorance, it turns into the wisdom of the absolute expanse. This is the wisdom mind of Chenrezi, the Buddha-nature, the essence of the Tathāgatas, which is present in all beings. Only because of ignorance, as the Buddha demonstrated, do we believe our deluded perception instead of recognizing this, our own nature. By establishing its void nature, recognize the dullness and delusion of ignorance as the absolute expanse itself. Then rest in that experience and practice the view, meditation, and action. This is the very heart essence of Chenrezi.

The Karmapa. Ogyen Triney Dorje

From one perspective, my situation is unique. From another, it is not unique at all. I was given the grand title of Karmapa and informed from an early age that I had a responsibility  to feel concern for everyone I came into contact with, and to benefit the whole world. There is nothing unique about having this responsibility; what is unique is that I was made aware of having it. We all share the same responsibility to care for others and be of benefit to the world. My title simply draws my attention to that fact clearly and means I had people reminding me of my responsibilities and encouraging me to develop the ability to fulfill them.

Budai

According to Chinese tradition, ‘Budai’ was an eccentric Chinese Zen monk who lived during the later Liang dynasty (907-923 AD) of China. He was a native of Fenghua and his Buddhist name was Qieci (Chinese : Pinyin). He was considered a man of good and loving character. Some Buddhist traditions consider him a Buddha or ‘Bodhisattva’, usually Maitreya (the future Buddha). His large protruding stomach and jolly smile have given him the common designation “Laughing Buddha”.

The Sixteenth KarmapaRangjung Rigpe Dorje

... The Sixteenth Karmapa ...

“Although the 16th Karmapa appeared
and acted as a human being,
his mind was completely open,
without any limitation.
He knew everything in an instant
and without having to think about it.”

The simple presence of Karmapa would create a profound and lasting blessing on all people coming into contact with him. He himself said that a Buddha should be known by his laugh and it was said that when Karmapa laughed, which he did all the time, one would hear him several houses away.

He also demonstrated a complete ability to communicate with animals. Once, at a course in Europe, a large raven tapped on the window where Karmapa was teaching. When let in, the bird flew directly to Karmapa, after which he instructed two people to go to a barn a few miles down the road where two other birds were trapped and starving. The birds were discovered and rescued."

His Holiness Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche

64.

 One deity, Chenrezi, embodies all Buddhas; One mantra, the six syllables, embodies all mantras;
One Dharma, bodhichitta, embodies all practices of the development and completion stages. Knowing the one which liberates all, recite the sixsyllable mantra.

The Buddha Shākyamuni himself is an emanation of Chenrezi; the Dharma, which shows us what to avoid and what to cultivate, is perfectly contained in the six-syllable mantra; the Saṅgha, the Bodhisattvas who help us along the path, are emanations of Chenrezi as well. Chenrezi is thus the union of the Three Jewels. Just as one reservoir collects countless drops of rain,
Chenrezi’s compassion includes all the wisdom of Mañjushrī and all the power of Vajrapāṇi. With this one deity, one mantra, and one practice, you can accomplish everything. The many deities are infinitely diverse: peaceful or wrathful, with one, three, or many heads, and with two, four, six, or many more arms, each one symbolizing a different quality. Yet you can be confident that all of them are included in Chenrezi. In the same way, since all the beneficial power of the immense variety of other mantras is contained in the sixsyllable mantra by itself, you can put all your heart into reciting just the one mantra.

17th KarmapaOgyen Trinley Dorje

The fact that you have the intention to work for others is important. Act on your wholesome intentions and altruistic impulses. If you have the thought of benefiting society, that is significant. Nurture and treasure that thought, and act on it as best you can. Doing so will certainly change you, and that in itself can be the start of the change you want to see in your world.
