THE HEART TREASURE OF THE ENLIGHTENED ONES The Practice of View) Meditation) and Action A Discourse Virtuous in the Beginning) Middle) and End by Patrul Rinpoche With commentary by Dilgo Khyentse

If a seed in the ground comes from a poisonous plant, the roots and leaves that develop from it are sure to be poisonous, or even lethal. In the same way, whenever the five aggregates are present, suffering is bound to ensue. The king-pin of the aggregates is consciousness, for it is consciousness that dings to the aggregates as truly existent, to pleasure as pleasure, and to suffering as suffering. Consciousness is, in fact, the deluded mind and its deluded thoughts. Now, once you recognize that consciousness has never come into true existence and can therefore neither continue to exist nor come to an end, you will be free from its grip. But until you reach that point, consciousness, constantly perpetuating delusion, will continue to generate more and more karma. It is therefore crucial that you focus all your efforts on recognizing the void nature of consciousness. When that recognition arises dearly, it is like the light of day breaking into the darkness of night.
