THE AFFLICTIONS
Much of Buddhist literature is devoted to exposing the nature of afflictions and the need to overcome them. In Sanskrit, the word for affliction is klesha, and the Tibetan equivalent is nyon mong (literally, “that which afflicts from within”). An affliction, by its very nature, brings about an immediate disturbance within the mind of the individual the moment it arises and thereby causes suffering within that individual.
